May '23 Newsletter

Hello and Happy May!

Last month, my husband and I did a California road trip, driving from LA to San Francisco, and that’s where all the pictures in this newsletter are from (all film! and all the credit for them goes to my husband). It was a dreamy time. We got to see how much the nature changes from the south to the north of the state, and every part of it (especially Big Sur) was so majestic and breathtaking. Coming from the East coast, all of the flora in California seems so different and otherworldly, from the yellow wild mustard growing along the highways, to the eucalyptus tress, cacti, and the redwoods. It was definitely the trip of a lifetime.

This month’s video is all about getting more greens into your every day. I know that I personally feel so great when I incorporate a variety of greens into my meals, but I also see so much value in them culinarily, for their flavors and color. I give all of my best tips for getting more greens in and make green herb sauce, simple sauteed and steamed greens, and a colorful chopped salad.

Seasonal Pleasures and Other Things

⁕ Everything is blooming on the East coast right now, and I make it a priority to get outside every day to see it all. There’s something new to observe every day; spring is just the best! These ‘flower walks’ instantly draw me back to the present, lift my mood, and reset me if I’m feeling in any sort of a funk.

⁕ I’m so excited to make this grain salad with pea and mint pesto from last spring, as soon as I get my hands on some local peas. As for the mint, last year’s mint is coming back like crazy in my garden beds, so there’s no shortage of mint everything in my future.

⁕ I’m buying a new bathing suit this summer, as I’ve had the same one from Nu Swim for at least five years. The quality from that brand is just superb, and it’s honestly still very wearable, just a little worn and bleached. I think I’ll be sticking with the same brand for my new one. So excited for summer and swimming!

Wishing you a wonderful May,
