photos from this spring in my town (taken on film)

Hello and Happy May!

This is such a beautiful time of year. May is when our farmers market moves outdoors, to a park that’s walking distance from where I live. On my walk today, I spotted some lilacs (maybe my favorite flowers ever) that are about to explode in blooms, and radishes are sprouting in my garden boxes (more on that below). I’ve been feeling inspired to spring clean the house and do some home improvement/decorating that I’ve been putting off all winter.

This month’s class is part 2 of the flavor building class from last month. I felt like there was so much more to say on the subject. This class unintentionally (but very organically) turned out to be all about fat and its importance in building flavor, and I make cauliflower ricotta & pea toasts, plus a nut butter noodle dish to illustrate the point.

This month’s recipes all turned out to be centered around the theme of fun. We’ve got a giant Raspberry Tahini Skillet Cookie, a super colorful Crushed Beet and Avocado Salad with Pumpkinseed Vinaigrette, and a Marinated Tofu ‘Feta’ that’s a great addition to so many savory dishes.

Seasonal Pleasures and Other Stuff

Radishes are the star vegetable of spring and early summer, and I’ve learned that they are the easiest and fastest vegetable to grow. I had a really nice crop from my deck garden boxes last year. I made a video all about harvesting them and a few super simple, but very delicious ways to enjoy them. Watch it here. Also, try this radish salad!

⁕ This Spring Potato and Lentil Salad is my go to picnic or potluck contribution in the spring. So good!

⁕ I have a new favorite film photography youtube channel, which I find to be incredibly relaxing to watch. I don’t think you necessarily need to be into photography to enjoy it either. Check out this video and this one.
