March '23 Newsletter
Hello and Happy March!
We’ve almost made it to spring! Meanwhile, we just has another snow storm last night (see photo above). Winter looks so different these days than it did even a decade ago. No snow to speak of during the holidays in December, when everyone’s craving it, with all the major snowfalls happening in late February or March, when everyone is ready for spring. Have you noticed this where you live as well?
As I wait for spring, I’ve been enjoying watching my paperwhites bloom (photo below), cooking lots of chunky soups, reading, and knitting. I’ve also been daydreaming about spring produce, and sunshine on my skin.
This month’s class is a new series I’m introducing, called The Grocery List. I’m sharing the general framework of my winter grocery list (it’s downloadable and printable, too!) and cooking with some of the items from that list. I’ll do this for every season, since my shopping list changes quite a bit according to the time of year. In the class, I make Oven Sage & Garlic White Beans, Sweet & Sour Braised Cabbage, and Marinated Beets.
Seasonal Pleasures and Other Things
⁕ As promised last month, I made an in-depth video all about my sourdough bread routine. I recently made English muffins with the same dough, and plan on making pizza soon as well. It’s so good!
⁕ I’m making these potato cakes for dinner tonight (except I’m adding leeks and no broccoli). Just wanted to share this oldie but goodie recipe, perfect for this time of year.
⁕ I make it a point to get my hands on some indoor-friendly flower bulbs every the spring: paperwhites, hyacinth, amaryllis. They require very little care (they don’t even need soil!), and bring so much joy to this final stretch of winter. This year, I got a bunch of paperwhite bulbs, and they’ve been making me so happy.
Wishing you a wonderful March,
